Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 2, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Tempus ("Tempus," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the Tempus mobile application. Tempus is designed to help users reduce distraction, interrupt compulsive app use, and manage access to selected apps, app features, and websites.
Tempus is currently an Android-first product. Some project files may exist for other platforms, but the core monitoring and enforcement features described in this Privacy Policy are primarily implemented for Android.
1. Information Tempus Accesses
Depending on the features you enable, Tempus may access the following categories of information on your device:
- App usage information, including foreground usage time for apps you choose to track.
- Information about installed apps, such as app names, package identifiers, and icons, when you choose custom apps to track.
- Accessibility-related information from the currently visible app screen, such as window state, view identifiers, visible text, and content descriptions, when needed to identify blocked app surfaces or enforce your settings.
- Visible browser or in-app browser URL text when needed to detect whether a blocked domain is open.
- Text or links you intentionally share to Tempus using Android's share features, for example when saving a website domain to block.
- Basic app configuration and device-local status information, such as onboarding completion, permission status, blocked domains, selected apps, daily limits, streak status, and related preference settings.
2. Android Permissions and Sensitive Access
Tempus relies on certain Android permissions to provide its core functionality:
- Usage Access: used to calculate usage time for tracked apps and support time-limit and streak features.
- Accessibility Service: used to detect when supported apps or blocked content surfaces are open, identify blocked websites in supported browsers, and help present interruption or blocking prompts.
The Accessibility Service may inspect limited on-screen information, including visible text, content descriptions, view identifiers, and window changes, solely to provide app-surface blocking, website/domain blocking, pause-on-open prompts, and related restriction features that you enable. Because accessibility data can be sensitive, you should only enable these permissions if you want Tempus to provide these features.
3. How We Use Information
Tempus uses accessed information to operate the app's core features, including to:
- detect when selected apps or blocked surfaces are opened;
- show pause, confirmation, or blocking prompts;
- enforce daily limits and temporary allowances you configure;
- detect blocked website domains in supported browsers;
- calculate tracked usage totals and scrolling-free day status;
- store your settings and preferences on your device; and
- display selected apps, streaks, and related progress information inside the app.
4. How Information Is Stored
Tempus stores app settings and tracking-related information locally on your device. This may include blocked domains, selected tracked apps, daily limits, streak or calendar status, onboarding state, temporary preference data, and related configuration information.
We do not provide user accounts, cloud synchronization, or a general-purpose remote storage service for this data.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use advertising SDKs to profile you for marketing. We do not require a user account to use the app's core features.
We may disclose information if required to comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request, or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the app.
6. Third-Party Services
Tempus does not use a third-party analytics SDK, advertising SDK, crash-reporting SDK, or payment SDK as part of its core functionality. If we introduce a third-party service that changes our privacy practices, we will update this Privacy Policy as required.
7. Data Retention
Because Tempus primarily stores relevant information on your device, that information generally remains available until you change it, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app, subject to normal device behavior and operating system controls.
8. Your Choices
You can control Tempus's access and use of information by:
- choosing whether to enable Usage Access and Accessibility permissions;
- choosing which apps and domains to track or block;
- changing or removing limits, allowances, and saved settings; and
- disabling permissions, clearing local app data, or uninstalling the app.
9. Children's Privacy
Tempus is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly design the app to collect personal information from children under 13 through a user account or online service. If you believe a child has provided information to us in a way that raises a privacy concern, please contact us so we can review the issue.
10. International Use
If you use Tempus outside your country of residence, you understand that the app's functionality may still operate locally on your device under the privacy and device-permission framework of the platform you use.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we may update the effective date above and take other steps as appropriate under applicable law.
